Theodore Jasper "T.J." Detweiler is the main protagonist of the Recess franchise.
He is voiced by Ross Malinger in season 1 and then Andrew Lawrence after season 1.
What Makes Him a Bart Simpson Expy?[]
- Heroic: In the theatrical film, Recess: School's Out, T.J. led the revolutionary of students and staffs of Third Street Elementary to stop Dr. Benedict's plan to ban summer vacation by producing an eternal ice age, saving the world in the process.
- Mischievous: T.J. is known for pulling elaborate pranks, going as far as to earn his nickname, Prankster Prince.
- Rebellious: T.J. plays by his own rules and is the first to take a stand to any injustice.
- Energetic: T.J. is a fun-loving kid and enjoys pulling pranks.
- Independent: T.J. is usually the one who comes up with ideas to get himself and his friends out of certain situations.
- Sarcastic/Witty: In School's Out, T.J. pretends to be Principal Prickly and mocks him for his "fat, saggy butt".
- Resourceful: T.J. is rather creative and has plans that comes naturally to him on the fly.
- Confident/Cocky: T.J. is highly confident with himself and can be overconfident at times.
- Charismatic: In the eyes of most adults, T.J. is nothing but a troublemaker who is always up to no good. However, in the eyes of the kids, he is a kind and wise person that always look out for his fellow kids and is generally the person people go to for advice.
- Relatable: Out of the main six, T.J. is considered the everyman due to him having the most qualities that kids in real life can identify with.
- Empathetic: T.J. shows compassion towards everyone around him, including his enemies such as the school's resident tattletale, Randall Weems.
- Is a Schemer: As the leader of the Recess Gang, T.J. comes up with unique and inventive ideas for pranks or schemes.
- Loyal: T.J. shows endless loyalty to his friends and classmates and would do anything for them.
- Street-Smart: Even though he has average to poor grades, T.J. is resourceful, creative and is able to think on his feet.
- Resilient: While he has his share of failures, T.J. manages to rise up in spite of them.
- Socially Savvy: T.J. uses his social skills to convince people to give him and his peers what they need.
- Spiky Hair: Though he rarely takes off his cap, T.J. is usually seen to have pointy, messy hair when he does take it off.
- Wears a Baseball Cap: T.J. is recognized by his red baseball cap, which he wears backwards.
- Book-Dumb: T.J. got a C- on a book report because he used the book's cover blurb, thinks "spy" is spelled S-P-I, gets a 10.1% on a test
- Has a Mischievous Laugh/Smile: Being the troublemaking prankster he is, T.J. occasionally laughs and smile in a mischievous way.
- Is a Slacker: Much of T.J.'s poor academic performance is largely attributed to his laziness rather than stupidity.
